Depression is a complex condition that can affect not only mental health but also overall physical health. Scientific research points to a bidirectional relationship between depression and cardiovascular disease: depression is more common in people with heart disease, while people with depression may also have an increased risk of cardiovascular disease.
This does not mean EECP is a treatment for depression, and it is not a psychiatric treatment.
EECP is not considered a primary treatment option for people diagnosed with depression.
People experiencing symptoms of depression should consult a mental health professional.
For people diagnosed with heart disease who are also experiencing depressive symptoms, it is recommended that both be assessed together. Collaboration between cardiology and mental health professionals can support both physical and emotional well-being.
